Fundraising Outlook: Caution Creeps In As Markets Flash Warnings

Investors plan to pump more capital into private-equity funds in 2019 in a bet that the asset class will continue to produce strong returns. But more of them are looking to managers and strategies that can play defense as signs of economic risk crop up around the globe.

“Limited partners are prioritizing the groups that actually need the capital,” said Jennifer Cho Rinehart, chief executive of placement agent Acalyx Advisors. “They don’t like when you come back for the second helping before you’ve finished the first.”
